Dragons' Wench

I sleep with dragons
in the dragons' realm.
There are churches down the road
where their tenants worship.
They pray for mercy
to their fathers' gods,
for fear their irrigation ditches
carry dragon eggs.

The tenants lock their doors
once the sun goes down.
They take all precautions,
working the land in groups,
intoning ritual mantras
to ward off dragons.

They need not worry.
I sleep with dragons.
I find them agreeable sorts,
and they pay me handsomely.
